Espana: a Brief History of Spain
Bestselling author Giles Tremlett traverses the rich and varied history of Spain, from prehistoric times to today, in a brief, accessible primer for visitors, curious readers and hispanophiles. 'Tremlett is a fascinating socio-cultural guide, as happy to discuss Spain's World Cup win as its Moorish rule' Guardian 'Negotiates Spain's chaotic history with admirable clarity and style' The TimesSpain's position on Europe's south-western corner has exposed it to cultural, political and actual winds blowing from all quadrants.Africa lies a mere nine miles to the south. The Mediterranean connects it to the civilizational currents of Phoenicians, Romans, Carthaginians, and Byzantines as well as the Arabic lands of the near east.Bronze Age migrants from the Russian steppe were amongst the first to arrive. They would be followed by Visigoths, Arabs, Napoleonic armies and many more invaders and immigrants.Circular winds and currents linked it to the American continent, allowing Spain to conquer and colonize much of it. As a result, Spain has developed a sort of hybrid vigour.Whenever it has tried to deny this inevitable heterogeneity, it has required superhuman effort to fashion a 'pure' national identity – which has proved impossible to maintain. In España, Giles Tremlett argues that, in fact, that lack of a homogenous identity is Spain's defining trait.

1949 CVNE Compania Vinicola del Norte de Espana 'Imperial' Reserva 1949 Rioja
From the stunning 1949 vintage, this Spanish red wine scores 92/100 Parker points "I've been lucky enough to have encountered the magnificent 1949 Viña Real Reserva Especial on a couple of occasions. That year the People's Republic of China was founded, while Germany split into two countries and NATO was created. George Orwell wrote the novel "1984." These old bottles are unpredictable and on previous occasions I've found very strong reduction. Even though the vintage was certainly excellent, at age sixty-something, there are no great vintages, only great bottles. Popular artists in that year included, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Frankie Laine and Vaughn Monroe. The top-grossing film in the U.S. was "Samson and Delilah." You have to dig deep to find a song that remains popular or at least known nowadays, perhaps "O Sole Mio," by Mario Lanza. The year saw a relatively long vegetative cycle (205 days). The wine was not bottled until June 1963, 14 years after the harvest! Unfortunately, this wine showed some evolution, with some toffee notes, and felt quite fragile, suffering in comparison with the 1947, 1954 or 1949. But overall, I think it was a surprising and different wine. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025" This vintage Spanish wine. is shipped in a deluxe silk lined wooden presentation box with four wine accessories (corkscrew, wine pourer, drip stopper & wine thermometer) [worth £17.99] at no extra cost and now includes a free gift card with your personal message and tasting and storage notes. One Only. Faded bin soiled label.

Prehistoria Y Antiguedad En El Alto Valle del Rio Almanzora (Almeria, Espana)
This book presents the study of a natural region, the Alto Almanzora, in the north of the province of Almería (Spain), in which 6 campaigns of systematic archaeological prospection were carried out.It is a large basin of 1675 km², at the eastern end of the Betic Cordillera, which slopes towards the Mediterranean Sea, with large differences in altitude between its mountainous edges (reaching over 2000 m a.s.l.) and the valley floor. Its geological formation has provided all kinds of lithic, mineral, forest, agricultural and pastureland resources, in addition to its water resources. All this constitutes a mosaic of different environments and contrasts over short distances. This work presents a historical study on an area of the Southeast of the peninsula that constituted a research gap, considering the societies that occupied it for more than 4000 years until the end of the Roman occupation. The authors expose the theoretical-methodological assumptions that formed the basis of the study, the previous documentation, the analysis of the obtained data and finally its interpretation, coherent with all the above. The results of the Thermoluminescence analysis were essential for this long-term diachronic study.Other specific studies on archaeological elements such as carved lithic industry and archaeometallurgy are also included.

On which Jewish festivals are the Christian festivals based?
The Christian festivals of Easter and Pentecost are based on the Jewish festivals of Passover and Shavuot, respectively. Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover, as it commemorates the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, which occurred during the time of Passover. Pentecost, on the other hand, is based on the Jewish festival of Shavuot, which celebrates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. Christians believe that the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles on the day of Pentecost, which is why the Christian festival is based on this Jewish holiday.
